What is Practical Shooting?
Practical shooting is a fully recognised shooting discipline, governed by the UKPSA. It focuses on the safe use of a variety of firearms in a wide range of contexts and situations and involves the development and application of a wide range of skills and techniques. These are then used to safely complete a specifically designed, timed shooting challenge (Course of Fire). Whilst marksmanship is important, Practical Shooting also requires strategic and tactical thinking, problem solving and the safe application of such skills as quick reloading, moving safely with a loaded firearm, and shooting from a wide range of different positions.
Creative courses of fire mean every range day is different. Multi position, multi distance, multi target courses of fire keep up the interest. Fancy lying prone, shooting at falling steels with a LBP from within a tunnel? Then practical Shooting is for you. And then there is "El Presidente".....
Torbay Fullbore Rifle and Pistol Club have a health and active Practical Shooting Section. We shoot every regular Club Range day at pur home range. That is every other Saturday morning, between 10:00 and 12:00hrs. All full members are welcome. Most days there is perhaps three courses of fire. Why not come along one morning and try your hand?
Practical Shotgun
Most practical range days there is a shotgun course of fire.
Smallbore Self Loading Rifle
Likewise, there is at least one course of fire where you can use your smallbore self-loading rifle. And yout reload needs to be fast.
Lever Action Rifle
Many of the courses of fire can be shot with your pistol calibre lever action rifle. Great fun!
Long Barrelled Pistols & Revolvers
The smallbore courses of fire can be shot often with your long barreled pistol. Similarily, some courses of fire for the lever action rifle can also be shot with your long barreled revolver.
UKPSA Affiliated
Torbay Fullbore Club are affiliaated with the UK's practical shooting national body, bringing many benefits.
